About Us
The National Employment Department (NED) of the Employment Division operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations is governed by the National Employment Act 2017. Its services are offered at regional level at the 13 Employment Information Centres (EICs) across the island through a wide range of service deliveries for registration and placement of jobseekers.
Core Objectives
- Facilitate the employment of jobseekers and laid-off workers.
- Accompany jobseekers for registration and placement on different Employability Enhancement Programmes.
- Conduct inspection to regulate and monitor the activities of Private Recruitment Agencies.
- Supervise and coordinate the service delivery activities of the 13 EICs.
- Manages all job vacancy notifications received from Ministries and Parastatal Bodies, following established protocols.
- Conducts inspections of companies across the island regarding work permit applications, recruitment licenses, and complaints.
- Builds communication networks between employers, jobseekers, training institutions, and stakeholders.
- Shares labour market data, job vacancies, and quarterly reports through various media platforms.
- Organizes job and training fairs for placement of jobseekers.
- Uses statistical tools to forecast labour market trends and formulate relevant policies.
- Collects, processes, and interprets data to evaluate existing policies and recommend effective resource allocation.
- Publishes and disseminates labor market information.

- Provides services including jobseeker registration, placement, counselling and job dating.
- Engage in job canvassing and surveys to obtain and process job vacancies.
- Conduct yearly labour market survey with employers.
