THE SUGAR INDUSTRY LABOUR WELFARE FUND

 

NOTICE OF VACANCIES

 

            The Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund (SILWF), a body corporate operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity and Reform Institutions, is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill in the following vacancies to work at Trèfles (Rose Hill) Community Centre:

 

POSTS:         (A) Community Support Officer

                         (B)  Community Support Assistant

                         (C)  Caretaker/Gardener

                         (D)  Warden/Community Activities Assistant

 

For Post (A) – Community Support Officer

 

I           AGE LIMIT

 

            Candidates should have reached their 18th birthday and, unless already in the Local Government/Government Service/Approved Service, should not have reached their 40th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications.

 

II          QUALIFICATIONS

 

(a)        Cambridge School Certificate with credit in 5 subjects including English Language, French, Mathematics or Principles of Accounts obtained at not more than two sittings or

(b)        Passes not below Grade C in at least five subjects including English Language, French and Mathematics or Principles of Accounts obtained at not more than two sittings at the General Certificate of Education “Ordinary Level” provided that at one of the sittings, passes have been obtained either (i) in five subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English Language with at least Grade C in any one subject or

            (c)       An equivalent qualification acceptable by the Fund.

NOTE

 

            Candidates not possessing a credit in English Language at the Cambridge School Certificate will also be considered provided they possess passes in at least two subjects at “Principal Level” and one subject at “Subsidiary Level” as well as the General Paper obtained on one Certificate at the Cambridge Higher School Certificate Examinations.

 

III         DUTIES

 

  1. To assist the Community Development Officer in the  performance of his/her
  2. To assist in the planning and running of training courses and other educational or informative activities.
  3. To assist in the planning, organization and monitoring of activities of Community Associations, Social Welfare Committees, Women’s and Senior Citizens Associations, as appropriate.
  4. To attend to the booking and letting or lending of tarpaulins and other equipment.
  5. To attend to the receipt, keeping and lending of books and other publications and to keep relevant records.
  6. To assist in the planning and running youth and sports activities, as appropriate.
  7. To tender appropriate advice to members of the public and liaise with relevant institutions.
  8. To inform and motivate members of the public to participate in community services, social work and welfare and other relevant programmes.
  9. To provide assistance, as appropriate, for improving the community.
  10. To contact members of the public for information required in connection with the implementation of community development or social welfare schemes.

 

  1. To provide clerical assistance.
  2. To perform such other duties directly related to the Main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from incumbents in the roles ascribed to them according to their postings.

 

IV        SALARY SCALE

 

            The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in the scale of Rs 13790x260 -

               14050x275 – 15150x300 – 15750x325 – 17700x375 – 19575x475 – 21950x625 -

                 23200x775 – 29400

 

            Appointment in the grade in a temporary capacity will carry salary at the flat rate of Rs 13790 a month.

 

 

For Post (B) – Community Support Assistant

 

I           AGE LIMIT

 

            Candidates should have reached their 18th birthday and, unless already in the Local Government/Government Service/Approved Service, should not have reached their 48th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications.

 

II          QUALIFICATIONS

 

            Candidates must:-

(a)    be holders of at least the Certificate of Primary Education or an alternative qualification acceptable to the Fund;

 

(b)    reckon experience in social work.

 

III         DUTIES

  1. To motivate people at grass-root level to participate in activities organised for

the benefit of the Community.

  1. To assist members of the Community in the upliftment of their quality of life.
  2. To assist in the progress and welfare of the community.
  3. To assist in the running of appropriate courses.
  4. To motivate people at grass-root level to participate in social work and community service.
  5. To canvas members of the community to attend to activities of the Social Welfare/Community and other Centres.
  6. To perform such other duties directly related to the Main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from incumbents in the roles ascribed to them according to their postings.

 

IV        SALARY SCALE

            The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in the scale of Rs 11970X260 – 14050X275

                – 15150X300 – 15750X325 – 17700X375 – 19575X475 - 21475

 

            Appointment in the grade in a temporary capacity will carry salary at the flat rate of Rs 11970 a month.

 

 

 

 

 

For Post (C) – Caretaker/Gardener

 

I           AGE LIMIT

 

            Candidates should have reached their 18th birthday and, unless already in the Local Government/Government Service/Approved Service, should not have reached their 48th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications.

 

II          QUALIFICATIONS

 

            Candidates must be holders of at least the Certificate of Primary Education or an alternative qualification acceptable to the Fund.

 

III         DUTIES

 

(1)  To be responsible for the cleaning and washing of the Community

Centres/Social Welfare Centres and to keep clean all equipment, furniture and fittings.

(2)  To assist in the issue and collection of tarpaulins, chairs and other relevant furniture and equipment, as appropriate.

(3)  In the absence of Senior Officers, to check any irregularity happening on the premises and to report same promptly to the Head Office or the Police, as appropriate.

(4)  To keep clean the site, including drives and footpaths and to perform appropriate planting and tendering of plants on the premises.

(5)  To perform such other duties directly related to the Main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from incumbents in the roles ascribed to them according to their postings.

 

IV        SALARY SCALE

 

The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in the scale of Rs 11970X260 – 14050X275 – 15150X300 – 15750X325 – 17700X375 – 19575X475 - 20050

 

            Appointment in the grade in a temporary capacity will carry salary at the flat rate of Rs 11970 a month.

 

For Post (D) – Warden/Community Activities Assistant

 

I           AGE LIMIT

 

            Candidates should have reached their 18th birthday and, unless already in the Local Government/Government Service/Approved Service, should not have reached their 48th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications.

 

II          QUALIFICATIONS

 

            Candidates must be holders of at least the Certificate of Primary Education or an alternative qualification acceptable to the Fund.

 

III         DUTIES

 

(1)  To be responsible for the general maintenance of order and discipline at the

centre, including the yard.

(2)  To store, deliver and collect indoor and outdoor games equipment and to

keep appropriate records in this connection.

(3)  To store, issue and collect tarpaulins, chairs and other appropriate furniture and equipment and to keep appropriate records in this connection.

(4)  To assist Senior Officer concerned in their activities, as appropriate.

(5)  To operate the television and other audio-visual equipment.

 

(6)  To perform such other duties directly related to the Main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from incumbents in the roles ascribed to them according to their postings.

 

IV        SALARY SCALE

 

The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in the scale of Rs 11200x250 – 11450x260 – 14050x275 – 15150x300 -15750x325 – 17700x375 - 18825

 

            Appointment in the grade in a temporary capacity will carry salary at the flat rate of Rs 11200 a month.

            Application forms for the posts are available at the Human Resources Section of the SILWF, 1st Floor, SILWF Building, 15-21 Edith Cavell Street, Port Louis.

 

            Qualified candidates are required to submit their application on the prescribed form, duly filled in, together with a comprehensive curriculum vitae and photocopies of birth certificate, marriage certificate (if any), national identity card, academic/professional qualifications and relevant documentary evidence of experience claimed (where applicable).

 

CLOSING DATE OF APPLICATION

 

            Applications should reach the Acting General Manager, Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund, 15-21 Edith Cavell Street, Port Louis, not later than 3.30 p.m on Tuesday 20th December, 2016.

 

 

IMPORTANT:

(i)            Applications not supported by copies of educational certificates will not be convened for interview.

(ii)          Qualifications obtained after the closing date will not be accepted.  Only qualified persons should apply.

(iii)         Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the application form may cause the elimination of candidates from the competition.

(iv)         Applications not made on the prescribed form will be rejected.

(v)          The post applied for should be clearly marked on the top left hand corner of the envelope.

(vi)         Only the best qualified candidates will be convened for interview.

(vii)        Applications received after the closing date and time will not be accepted.  The onus for the prompt submission of applications so that they reach the Acting General Manager of the Fund in time lies solely on applicants.

(viii)      The Fund reserves the right not to make any appointment as a result of this advertisement.
